Urban Sketching #3 - Cafe View on Granville St, Vancouver BC

Here's a sketch done sitting at a window seat at the Bump N Grind Cafe on Granville Street. I used a mechanical pencil, micron pens sizes 01 & 005, and a light purple ZIG Art & Graphic Twin brush pen. I spent roughly an hour one the drawing.

Urban Sketching #2 - Coco et Olive, Vancouver BC

Another cafe sketch, this time at Coco et Olive on Main & East 21St, Vancouver, BC. It's a nice cafe with sandwiches, quiches, delicious baked goods, and most importantly good coffee.

I did this sketch while I was there for lunch a few days ago. The sketch took roughly a half hour. It's drawn with pencil, micron pens sized 01 & 03, and a black & light purple ZIG Art & Graphic Twin brush pen.

And in case you're curious, this is what I had for lunch:

Tomato & olive quiche with a curried lentil soup. Delicious!

Life Drawing at Dr. Sketchy Vancouver

Here's a couple sketches I did Sunday night at Dr. Sketchy Vancouver.

For anyone not familiar with Dr. Sketchy, it's life drawing mixed with burlesque dancers, acrobats, or costumed performers. It runs twice a month in Vancouver, and is definitely worth checking out. Artists and non-artists are all welcome!

Goldfish Painting

Lately I've been experimenting a bit with watercolor and oil painting. I've been doing a few small quick pieces, mostly to try out different materials or techniques. Here's one of them, a watercolor painting of a goldfish.

Painting in progress, plus the art supplies I used.

Goldfish done!

Distillery District Sketches IV - Sketch Dump

Here are some more sketches that I've been doing in the Distillery District of Toronto, Canada. The area used to be an old whisky distillery, and at one point it was the largest in the world. It is one of Canada's few pedestrian only historical districts, and according to wikipedia it "is the largest collection of Victorian-era industrial architecture in North America." If you ever find yourself in Toronto, this is definitely an area that you should check out.

Here's another sketch of some buildings on Trinity Street that I did this morning. There's a lot of beautiful architecture on this street.

Weekly Sketches Blog

Some friends and colleagues of mine have started a weekly sketch blog at http://weeklysketchart.blogspot.com. Here's my art from the first two themes, a mermaid and a really happy tentacle cat alien.
