Tiny R2D2

Tiny R2D2 that I sculpted for our Star Wars D&D campaign. I think our R2 garbage can is happy to have some new company.

Sunday Afternoon Sketch

I was inspired by a sculpture and decided to draw a Jedi Twi'lek.

The initial sketch.

Some lighting keys to come up with ideas.

Goodbye Dr. Sketchy Toronto

Today I discovered to much sorrow that the Dr. Sketchy life drawing in Toronto is no longer going on. There was something absolutely fantastic about having life drawing sessions in a bar with models being dressed in everything from burlesque to Heman and Skeletor. I will definitely miss the drawing sessions.

Here's a few drawings I never got around to posting from the last couple times I went to Dr. Sketchy's.
I would spend the first 15 - 30 seconds of a pose roughing out the gesture with a pale marker --usually a 5% grey marker or light blue-- so that the pose was there, but barely visible. Then I'd do the rest of the drawing in pencil.

Burlesque dancers, cop & robber

The next model was a little bit more provocative with her costumes and poses. She had a crazy 1980s X-Men Storm styled white mohawk, ripped stockings, corset, pasties and the most ruffled skirt I had ever seen. One of her other costumes can only be described as a ninja-snake-not-sure-what-she's-supposed-to-be, but it looked cool. And yes, that is a swimming inner tube used at the bottom of her dress.

Happy Chinese New Year!

In celebration of Chinese New Year, I decided to sketch a few bunnies since this is the year of the rabbit.

Life Drawing

We'll, it's been way longer than I'd like to admit since the last time I've gone life drawing, so when I heard that'd there would be life drawing offered at work tonight, I couldn't resist. I was more than a little rusty, and most of my drawings didn't turn out but it felt fantastic to get back into it again. I going to try to make it to every life drawing session offered at work for now on.

Gnomeo and Juliet Hi-Res Still

A couple dozen stills from the movie Gnomeo and Juliet have been released at http://www.stitchkingdom.com/disney-news/movies/gnomeo-juliet-twentysix-hires-stills/?show=gallery&pageid=14320

Here's a few still that show work that I've done
on the project

For this movie I worked primarily on texturing sets. I painted all of the backyard and fence sets that are in this shot.

Same with this shot.

I didn't do a lot here, just the wooden fences in the background.

In this set, I painted a lot of the objects are are within this greenhouse. Unfortunately this shot doesn't show much of that off, and only a bit of the interior wooden tables are seen on the left.

New Year

Happy New Year! This year instead of focusing on trying to get a lot of artwork onto this site as often as possible, I'm going to focus instead on trying to improve my skills as an artist. As a result, there will probably be a lot less artwork showing up here, but I'm hoping that it'll be of better quality than what it's been so far.

In the spirit of trying to get back into life drawing, I've drawn a self-portrait, which is something I haven't done in a very long time.

Kitchen Sketch

Here's a quick sketch I made of my mother-in-law's kitchen over Christmas. I was relaxing by their fireplace when I was inspired to make this sketch.

Dungeons and Dragons Characters

Yesterday Marc and I started a new D&D campaign with some friends. One of the best parts about a new campaign is that we get to make new characters. Marc made a Minotaur Druid named Elros Ar-Belzagir and I made a Dwarf Fighter/Cleric named Ailsa Orccrusher. Marc by far spent the most time preparing his character before hand, giving Elros a really well thought out personality. It made the game much more interesting and fun, especially since he didn't reveal any details about his character to anyone beforehand. Here's a sketch I did of my character.
Ailsa Orccrusher

Her shield is blank for now, I'm not sure what's going to go on it or what it's supposed to look like yet.

Male Elf

Ok, so I was supposed to stop drawing elves, and yet here's another elf... at least this one is male :)

Old Sketch

Here's an old doodle that I did back in late February/early March. It's a typical for me to make small drawings with lots of detail, though not always with a lot of success. I particularly like this image though.

Halo Night

Yesterday Marc and I were carving pumpkins and playing Halo at our friend Marie-Eve's place. It was a ton of fun and I was glad to have the chance to do a bit of sketching there. The guys made fantastic drawing models; they barely moved at all while they played until someone killed someone else :)

Wood Nymph

So, I was going to try to draw something other than an elf, and I ended up with a Wood Nymph. Oh well. I guess technically they are different.
